RoverMap is a backdrop raster map product based on the Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 Scale Colour Raster (as used in the OS Explorer Map series), covering GB (not including the Isle of Man). It consists of digital images, ideally suited for scales on screen in the range 1:20,000 to 1:5,000. There is also a vector layer of place names suitable for use with the Find command in a GIS.

RoverMap technical information
A workspace or project file is supplied.
The nominal scale of these images is 1:25,000 (about 2½ inches to 1 mile) and the resolution is 10 dots/mm (254 dpi). Each pixel represents 2½m square.
The British National Grid co-ordinate system is used.
The colour images all use the same 8-bit palette of 256 colours. The edges between adjacent colours are slightly softened to improve the appearance. LZW compression is used.
The storage space required is approximately 3.4Mb per 10km x 10km tile on average.
Main formats available: TIFF, JPEG and others, along with georeferencing files for use in GIS.
