Whats new in ResponseMX 2.6

Since the last version, the ResponseMX platform’s functionality has been expanded. The RMX Plain sample application demonstrates its ability to serve many different types of client:

The ResponseMX AJAX client API has been extended and a new sample application RMX AJAX has been developed to demonstrate the new capabilities including:

  • Map tools for navigation (zoom in, zoom out, pan, centre) and information (info), with custom cursors;
  • Custom rendering of the data returned by the info tool using JavaScript Templates;
  • Improved map animation, including support for custom animations;
  • A simplified WiXYBar control to display the zoom width and cursor location for a map;
  • Integration with the Prototype JavaScript framework.

Print templates have been enhanced in a number of ways including:

  • The option to provide a dynamic AJAX enabled print template that allows the user to pan the map to fine tune their area of interest and choose from a list of administrator defined scales;
  • The facility to print to scale, using both static and dynamic print templates;
  • The administrator can define how the map view is affected if the size and aspect of the map in the print template differs from the main application. Options include, preserving the scale of the map, the zoom width or snapping to the nearest predefined scale.

A new action provides find the nearest functionality which is utilised by a new Flash component included in the RMX Display sample application.

Another new action provides search in region functionality which is utilised by the new SearchInRegion map tool and an associated Flash component which is also included in the RMX Display sample application. Results from this action can also be downloaded from the server in comma separated variable files.

The Audit Module is designed to audit the map data being used by a ResponseMX application. Support is provided for both Ordnance Survey and NAVTEQ data products that are covered by pay-per-use licenses.

Support has been added for MySQL database searches.

The option of a static overview map as well as the dynamic version. The static overview map Flash component displays a static map image with a box overlain to highlight the extent of the main map view. A developer can specify the image and its extents, together with the style of the box.

The LayerControl Flash component has the facility for the Administrator to override the default layer or group icons shown in the layer control.

A new SetMapBounds action allows the bounds of a map to be set at run time to limit the area that a user can view.

A new GetMap action allows a developer to determine if a user has viewed a map during their current session. This can be used to recreate the view of a map if a user returns to an application they had previously been using.

The documentation has been improved to make developing with ResponseMX easier. The ActionScript documentation now includes code examples for commonly used classes and methods; all actions supported by the server are now documented with an explanation of their parameters; and three tutorials are now provided that cover developing a custom application with the ActionScript API. All documentation can be found under the documentation section.
