TerrainMap (Ordnance Survey Land-Form PANORAMA)
TerrainMap is derived from the Ordnance Survey Land-Form PANORAMA digital terrain model (DTM) covering Great Britain (including the Isle of Man). It is made up of a grid of points at 50m intervals.

TerrainMap suggested applications
- View-shed analysis;
- Wind farm planning;
- Floodplain mapping.
TerrainMap features & use
- Spot heights at 50m intervals supplied in 20km x 20km tiles;
- Interpolate a thematic grid map, colouring to create a map tinted according to elevation;
- Analyse points to check their height above sea level;
- Fit closely with contextual RangerMap product derived from OS 1:50,000 Scale Colour Raster dataset;
- Drape other map layers, such as RangerMap, onto a 3D view of the land surface;
- Available as full national GB coverage or smaller ‘cut-out’ extracts (priced per sq km) or any combination of 20km x 20km tiles (priced per tile).
TerrainMap technical information
A workspace (for use in MapInfo Professional GIS) or project file (for use in ESRI ArcView/GIS) is supplied.
The nominal scale of the grid files is 1:50,000 (about 1¼ inch to 1 mile). The grid intervals are 50m and the height accuracy is ±3m.
Suitable for scales on screen in the range 1:1,000,000 to 1:100,000. The 20km x 20km tiles are based on the OSGB grid.
The British National Grid co-ordinate system is used.
The storage space required is about 20GB for full GB coverage in MapInfo TAB format.
Main formats available: MapInfo TAB, ESRI SHP, AutoCAD DXF, Illustrator EPS and others.
TerrainMap is licensed for internal business use by a specified number of users and includes hard copy prints up to A3 in size. Publishing on the Internet can count as a single user.
After the first year there is an annual charge equal to the initial price, including one update per year.
