ScalerMap

ScalerMap Loading Services translate and add value to the OS VectorMap Local data set, covering GB (not including the Isle of Man). We currently offer the ScalerMap Tiled Service and the ScalerMap Custom Service, and this information describes the output from both.

ScalerMap features & usage

Supplied as any number of 5km square tiles and priced per tile;
Derived from the most detailed national mapping available, continually maintained by field survey teams;
Fits precisely with AddressView and TransportMap products derived from the OS MasterMap data set;
Islands etc within water or other areas are converted to conform to OGC standards;
A clean set of road areas is created and colour-coded by road classification;
Railway track beds are synthesised so bridges and level crossings are depicted clearly;
Slopes and cliffs are rendered to match perfectly the conventional 'hachure patterns';
Tunnels areas are created, ranging in size from pedestrian subways to the channel tunnel;
Text and symbols portray the Ordnance Survey cartography in a consistent way in every system.

ScalerMap technical information

A workspace (for use in MapInfo Professional) or map document file (for use in ESRI ArcGIS) opens all the layers and sets zoom layer thresholds that determine when the layers are visible.

Suitable for scales on screen in the range of 1:1,000,000 to 1:1,000.

The British National Grid co-ordinate system is used.

The storage space required for the whole of Great Britain is approximately 200GB in MapInfo TAB format.

Formats available: MapInfo TAB, AutoCAD DXF, ESRI SHP and others.

The ScalerMap Custom Service also offers geo-referenced raster formats, such as TIFF, for use with systems which are optimised to render image files as fast as possible. This premium service can also incorporate building numbers from the customer's own gazetteer of addresses.

ScalerMap Loading Services are supplied for five years (or, in the case of NHS organisations, until the end of the current Digital Mapping Agreement) for the benefit of one organisation. This includes processing all updates supplied during the contract period.

To provide a one-stop solution, we can also supply the OS VectorMap Local data set, licensed for a for internal business use by a specified number of users and includes hard copy prints up to A3 in size. Publishing on the Internet may also be licensed, depending on the application.

After the first year there is an annual charge equal to the initial price, including four updates per year.
